PRE-TREATMENT CARE:

If your child develops a runny nose, a cough, or a cold, the appointment may have to be postponed. Please report to the clinic immediately.

Early arrival gives your child the opportunity to relax and get comfortable. Please be on time or early to help us complete monitoring your child's vital statistics.

If your child is taking any medications, it must be reported to the dentist prior to scheduling this procedure.

Your child must have had a restful sleep for early morning appointments.

There should be a 2 hour gap between the last meal consumed and the dental procedure. Try to give a light meal. This will prevent any nausea and vomiting that the gas might rarely induce.

It is best to dress your child in comfortable clothing.

It is often relaxing for your child to bring his/her favorite toy along.

Your child should be encouraged to go to the bathroom at home or at the office before treatment.

Because of a child's inability to cooperate, parents are often asked to leave the treatment room. Children often cry when initially separated from their parent. Please do not be alarmed as this is a normal behaviour and they usually settle down once we get them comfortable. Please also do not be alarmed if you hear your child cry during treatment as again, we are not putting them to sleep-only relaxing them and even though they may cry, they are usually cooperative.

POST TREATMENT CARE:

Children can return to their normal activities. Heavy physical activity like skating, swimming etc can be postponed until the next day.

Use of mask that fits over the nose can cause facial skin drying and irritation. Apply a moisturizing cream on the face as well as Vaseline to the lips.

Be careful that your child doesn't bite his/her lip, cheek or tongue till the numbness wears off.

Take medication as prescribed by the dentist.

Follow the following fasting schedule to prevent any nausea and vomiting.

Your child may feel irritable and cranky. It is best that they grab upon a good sleep.

Nausea and vomiting is rarely expected as medicines are already administered after the procedure to prevent it.

There may be some pain in swallowing and hoarseness of voice due to endotracheal intubation.

There can be facial skin drying and irritation. Apply a moisturizing cream on the face as well as Vaseline to the lips.
